A DISTINCTION

There are basically two categories of Caron perfumes: the widely available ones (which can be bought at certain stores and on-line) and those that can only be bought at Caron boutiques (the two major boutiques are the Paris one on Av.Montaigne and the New York City one. There is also a space at Harrods in London and some others in french towns listed on the Caron site). Parfum concentration is available in the boutiques for all, unless discontinued. The "urns" mentioned at some scents are the crystal Baccarat urns that are used to fill empty bottles with at the boutique. Some perfumes are only available as an urn parfum/extract.

The list is alphabetical for ease of reference. Mail me on MUA if you want to send me additional info. (you will be quoted)

There is also an innovation that becomes a highly original signature of this fragrance and was revolutionalry at the time: a soupηon of pineapple that gives a tart highlight to the heady florals.Acaciosa has remained, ever since it was introduced, among the greatest floral bouquets in international perfumery.

Chypre fruity floral. Impetuous, stimulating, subtle.Notes : Lemon, Grapefruit, Bergamot, Rose, Orange, Jasmine, Orchid, Thyme, Patchouli, Myrrh, Cedar, Sandalwood, Musk, Oakmoss
Caron discovered in 1939 a new universe : the Garden of the Hesperides. Hercules according to the Greek mythology defied the nymphs Hesperides, guardians of the garden, and stole from the Greek gods the secret of immortality, the" golden apples ". This was the inspiration behind Alpona, the first fragrance to combine flowers with lemon and grapefruit. These tart citrus fruits (known as "hesperideans") give the perfume its modernity. The picture conjured is one of sun ripened fruits basking in a Mediterranean orchard in the last foothills of the Alps , hence the name, with considerable darkness and richness underneath thanks to the inclusion of oakmoss.
Alpona, a fresh scent, is recommended according to Caron for immoderate indulgence by every woman who wants to get the juice out of life

BELLODGIA

Available in extract, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette
Soliflore Carnation (single floral). A heady, rich, dazzling carnation.
Notes: Carnation, Carnation, Rose, Jasmine, Lily of the valley, Sandalwood, Musk, Vanilla
Fιlicie Vanpouille wanted to immortalise in perfume the charm of an Italian town overlooking Lake Como-- Belladgio , which is after all the inspiration for the name of this spicy floral .Introduced in 1927, " Bellodgia " conveys the warmth of fields of carnations in the sunshine. Roses, jasmine, violets, and lily of the valley are in the wings complimenting the dominant note. The sophistication is undeniable; the final note alone is composed of more than a hundred essences. It finds an apt companion in the opulence of the cut-glass bottle. It has a stopper cut like a rough diamond.Bellodgia is according to Caron one of the favorite perfumes of American women.
An Eau de perfume has been created in 1996 to optimize the accord of carnation and tea.
Bottle designer: Felicie Vanpouille

Oriental spicy. An irresistible invitation to travel per Caron site.

20 May 1927 : When Charles Lindbergh finally landed at the Bourget airport after a 25 hour trans-Atlantic flight, welcomed by a cheering crowd, he didn't realize the full extent of what he had done. He had been the first man to accomplish Icarus' dream. In fact, he made history which went on to a race to conquer the skies. People all over the world were watching the exploits of the adventurers defying the laws of gravity. Women participated too: Adrienne Bolland, Hιlθne Boucher, Maryse Bastiι, all contribued to the history of French Aeronautics.
In 1930 Caron dedicated a fragrance to them: En Avion, a great floral spicy with oriental background, named thus to commemorate the epic spirit of adventure and escape air travel inspired.

EAUX DE CARON

This is a collection of fresh scents , a trio of brilliance.

The perfume Eau de Caron Fraξche is available in : Eau de Toilette, Eau de Cologne, Bath line.
Eau de Cologne is a fresh - citrus scent; excessively refined.
Notes :Mandarin, Lemon, Grapefruit, Basil, Thyme, Jasmine, Rose, Patchouli, Walnut, Nutmeg, Oakmoss, MuskEau de Cologne for both men and women was introduced in 1994. Eau de Cologne combines subtle tonic freshness, dynamism and refinement.Caron Eau de Cologne fits everyday needs admirably: because "you'd hate to run out of it" as the firm puts it.
Designed in the Eaux de Caron style, the uncluttered lines of the simple bottles are in symmetry with the idea of purity and freshness. The transparent glass drops etched on the bottle are refreshing and pretty. The bath line was launched in 1995 with this rule in mindL just a few products but each one necessary.
In 1997, there was the addition of a true Eau de Toilette : l'Eau de Caron fraξche.Higher concentration, intense fresheness of the generous diffusion of volatile notes. The yellow color of the box compliments its citrus notes and the sparkling personality of the juice.

The perfume Eau de Caron Pure is available in : Eau de toilette, Bath line.
Unexpected, light and fresh : the originality of marine notes underlined with spicy notes, this is the perfection of an aquatic ballet as Caron tells us.
Notes : Passionfruit Blossom, Bergamot, Mandarin, Cardamon, Rosewood, Spices, Water fruits, Sandalwood, Cedar.
Already in 1994, with its Eau de Cologne, Parfums Caron associated the vivacity of a classic eau de cologne with the sophistication and elegance of an eau de toilette. Two years later, the Eaux de Caron family is enlarged with the addition of Eau de Caron Pure .
The box, in a modern shade of blue looks full of lucidity and recalls the "spicy-marine" fragrance. Made graphically similar to the Eau de Cologne, in order to identify it on shelf space as part of the " Eaux de Caron " family.

INFINI

An aldehydic floral of great distinction and feminity. Available in : Extract, Eau de Toilette
Daffodil, Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Aldehydes, Lily, Iris, Rose, Tuberose, Tonka bean, Vetiver, Ambreine, Sandalwood, Musk

The concept of infinity was best left to poets and scientists until in 1970 Caron captured its smell in a perfume.
In resonance with the era of its creation, that of the first conquests of space, it is thoroughly modern.
The fragrance concept demanded 15 years of research to finally obtain a perfect synergy between the " green " top note, the floral aldehyde heart, and the woody base.
Serge Mansau, the most artistic of French designers, designed the assymetric bottle-sculpture, hollowed out in the middle, inspired by the mathematical symbol for infinity.
The intricate perfume of Infini attracts women who have an innovative sensitivity and an artistic flair.

FARNESIANA

The perfume Farnesiana is available in : Extract (from the urns)
Soliflore Mimosa. Impert and tender at the same time.
Notes : Cassie, Mimosa, Bergamot, Jasmine, Violet, Lily of the Valley, Lilac, Opoponax, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Hay, Musk.
Since it was created in 1947 Farnesiana stands alone, since there is almost no comparative fragrance on the market. Although mimosa is highly appreciated by florists for the fresh and joyfull touch it gives to any bouquet, very few noses have ever taken the plunge and challenge of building a perfume around it.
Ernest Daltroff turned to an essence with surprisingly modern accents-- cassie, a lesser known variety of mimosa. Carefully blended with mimosa it gives the fragrance an incredible softness , almost palpable.
Cassie, coming from the Latin " Acacia Farnesiana ", gave the perfume its name, with echoes of the Farnese Palace in Rome, and an art of living based on classic values , Mediterranean style.
Bottle designer: Felicie Vanpouille

FLEUR DE ROCAILLE

The perfume Fleur de Rocaille is available in : Extract, Eau de Toilette, Bath line.
Bouquet Floral. "Une brassιe de fleurs fraξches sur fond d'ambre et de bois prιcieux" is how Caron describe it : fresh florals on an amber and precious woods bed.
Notes : Gardenia, Violet, Lily of the Valley, Rose, Jasmine, Iris, Ylang-Ylang, Lilac, Mimosa, Santalwood, Cedar, Amber.
In 1993 Caron introduced Fleur de Rocaille, a perfume of youthful vivacity that is inspired by the older classic Fleurs de Rocaille ,compared to which though it bears many differences.Fleur de Rocaille exploits a contrast between :the soft fresh delicacy of a flower and hard strength of rocks (rocaille).
The name Fleur de Rocaille alone conveys an ambivalence : a personality that can be both fragile and strong :" Not so easy to capture"
The Fleur de Rocaille bottle plays on the same contrast :classicism of a bottle in the shape of a vase and the modernity of the floral motif carried over on the bottle and glass stopper.
All the products in the Bath Line, launched in 1994, contain Aloe Vera and Oil of Musk Rose that moisturize and nourish the skin.

Not to be confused with the classic Fleurs de Rocaille that follows below.

FLEURS DE ROCAILLE

The perfume Fleurs de Rocaille is available in : Extract, Eau de Toilette.
Floral Aldehyde. The eternal feminine perfume, it can never be outdated. This is a classic and young perfume.
Notes : Rose, Lilac, Jasmine, Aldehydes, Lily of the Valley, Violet, Carnation, Ylang Ylang, Musk, Sandalwood, Cedar, Oakmoss.
In 1933 women discover sports, speed and progress. Ernest Daltroff sensed their need for lighter, more dynamic perfumes. He drew on aldehydes - a brand new discovery in perfumery - to enhance a bouquet of lovely natural flowers. A great classic was thus created : Fleurs de Rocaille.
Fιlicie Vanpouille designed a bottle in stylised nineteen thirties lines, resembling a little vase, adorned with a black ribbon and gold cord in the classic french tradition of perfumery. It became an instant sensation and a lasting success for the house of Caron. For numerous years Fleurs de Rocaille was one of the best selling perfumes in the America, and still today it is acclaimed as one of the finest compositions in international perfumery.

FRENCH CAN CAN

Available in Extract
Amber floral. Dazzling, vibrant, obsessive.
Jasmine, Lilac, Viloet, Lily of the Valley, Rose, Orange Blossom, Patchouli, Iris, Sandalwood, Amber, Oakmoss,
In 1936, it was the time for la vie parisienne. Cabaret divas stole the limelight from the elegant beauties of the Champs Elysιes, drawing crowds at clubs like the Chat Noir in Montmartre or the Moulin Rouge. Common people mingled with fancy folks and men of noble birth (like Monsieur de Toulouse Lautrec, the famous artist, no less) to share the fun!
Caron indulged in the pleasures of Gay Paris. French Cancan is a direct translation of the dance that dared to show something more than the ankles of the ladies in olfactory terms. Fιlicie Vanpouille, knowing that her Place Vendτme clients might not appreciate the allusion introduced this perfume only in the United States at first. The overseas success of French Cancan, and the loosening of morals in postwar Europe, allowed this fragrance to pursue a brilliant success story in its homeland.
Nowadays the international fame of France owes as much to the Louvre as the Lido, so French Cancan is the perfume of the Parisian woman par excellence : high class, yet saucy, she can be a naughty charmer.

LADY CARON

Available in Eau de toilette.
Scent Type: Floral - Fruity
Top Notes: Neroli, jasmine, magnolia
Heart Notes: Raspberry, rose, peach
Base Notes: Sandalwood, oakmoss

In 2000 Caron introduced a fragrance steeped in one man's dream of liberty and life. The tale goes that in 1939, when Nazi Germans threatened Europe, Ernest Daltroff fled Paris for the safety of the United States. Daltroff felt his hopes soar when his ship passed the Statue of Liberty--the gift to the US from France, his homeland.
The lady  who is reffered to in thie perfume then is the Liberty Lady, whose embossed face shimmers on every bottle. Lady Caron combines fruity floral essences of uplifting raspberry, rose, peach, and jasmine and essences that nurture the soul and make the spirit soar. Lady Caron symbolises elegance for the new millennium.

MUGUET DE BONHEUR

Available in Extract, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette
Soliflore lily of the valley, tender and delicate.
Lily of the valley, Lilac, Lily of the valley, Jasmine, Magnolia, Pear, Heliotropine, Musk

For May Day 1952 Fιlicie Vanpouille wanted a perfume based on the May Day flower -- lily of the valley. In less than a month, Muguet du Bonheur was there, a record in the history of Haute parfumerie. A delicate floral to celebrate springtime. The tall graceful bottle was inspired by the flower and for an additional touch of refinement the designer gave it an additional sprig of lily of the valley.
Forty years later, the May Day tradition is still strong. Caron decided to offer a new composition for the young ladies. As a result on May 1st 1996, the family of Muguet du Bonheur was flanked by an Eau de Parfum, where a more light and airy lily of the valley reigns from top to base with neroli, rose and jasmine in its fragrant wake. Muguet du Bonheur (=lily of the valley of happiness) Caron creates eternal springtime all year long.

N AIMEZ QUE MOI

Available in Extract.

Floral bouquet. Tender, delicate and powdery.
Lilac, Rose, Violet, Iris, Vetiver, Cedar, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Amber, Musk, Oakmoss

In 1916 war was raging and young women yearn for their loved ones at battle praying for them to come home soon. To boost the morale of the troops and their loved ones, Caron introduced N'Aimez Que Moi, which tranlsates in "don't love anyone but me"... A promise of fidelity then. It was only natural that it became a favourite gift of young soldiers to their fiancιes. Ernest Daltroff created this tender comforting perfume with luscious notes of candy and violet, on a sophisticated very feminine base.
Women today can't resist the charm of the name ; but they are ultimately won over by the refined aroma of N'Aimez Que Moi, with that delicious soft old-fashioned character.

Available in Extract.

Floral bouquet of innocence and grace.
Orange blossom, Neroli, Petitgrain, Orange, Jasmine, Rose, Linden, Iris, Amber, Musk

Bewitching, mysterious interpretation in 1911 --Narcisse Noir-- reinterpreted in a far more sober register in 1927 for Blanc. The uncluttered structure --comprising of only three, but three of the most noble flowers : jasmine, orange blossom, and rose-- explains the amazing purity expressed by its name.
The Caron flowerbed is rich with a touch of natural sophistication enticing women whose elegance and grace speak for themselves, without the need for artifice.

The sumptuous exotic composition of Rose, Jasmine and Orange blossom is the secret behind it timeless allure.

OR ET NOIR

Available in Extract.

Floral Bouquet. Legendary opulence of the Orient against a background of Thousand and One Nights.
Bulgarian rose, Centifolia rose, Geranium, Anatolian, Rose, Lilac, Carnation, Oakmoss, Woody amber

Of all the flowers that go to make Caron perfumes, rose was the most fascinating to Ernest Daltroff and therefore is present in the heart of most of his creations, not to mention the fragrance signature of Caron powders. Inspired by this multifaced blossom, he dedicated two compositions to the rose in 1949:Or et Noir and Rose.
In Or et Noir all the sensuality of the warm oriental rose is exploited to the max. Ernest Daltroff used only natural essences of rose, the most expensive on the market and Fιlicie Vanpouille demanded the most precious materials for the fabrication in limited series of the Baccarat cut crystal bottle, covered in gold leaf.
Fragrance and bottle, everything about Or et Noir speaks for the luxury vision according to Caron : never ostentatious, always chic.
Or et Noir is per Caron the perfume that "embellishes the woman with an assertive temperament, who dares to express her opulent taste but abhors every sort of exhibitionism".

Fιlicie Vanpouille organised a festive launch at the Place Vendτme in front of the Caron House attended by the top ranks of Parisian society.
The fragrance was so popular all over the world that Caron added an eau de toilette that same year, with a name that capitalised on the "sharp as a whip" effect : Coup de Fouet...

Two versions of rose : Or et Noir magnifies the opulenceof a ripe full-blown rose, while Rose, introduced in the same year, has the delicate air of a rosebud plucked at dawn. The ethereal character of the latter required no less than 30 different natural essences.
The success of Rose led to the creation in 1996 of an Eau de Parfum version. Without any loss of the original nobility, it was given a contemporary tonality to subtly modernise it by being still rose and always rose, but sparklier at the top and softer at the basenotes thanks to the addition of beeswax.

Leather, Carnation, Linden, Iris, Vetiver, Ylang ylang, Cedar, Patchouli, Vanilla, Amber, Musk

In 1918, just at the end of WWI the United States dominated in international politics. Europeans stared with wide open eyes at the "landing" of American women. These women went around shamelessly smoking cigarettes! And the old world discovered that smoking was not only a whim of men. The difference between fumoir and boudoir became non-distinct
and smoking became elegant and hip. Nonchalantly bringing a long ivory and mother of pearl cigarette holder to her lips, she the new flapper woman would exhale smoky rings.
In 1917, to signal the dawn of women's liberation, Caron dedicates this provocative perfume to those beautiful androgynes by stealing leathery top notes from men while combining them with feminine floral bouquets.
Today's women are loyal to it and it comes as no surprise that men love the Eau de Toilette version!
